I have always been at odds with religion. I never fully accepted any one belief. Never cared to, besides when I was a teenager. That is when I felt a war was needed against religion, how dare people believe what they want to. I have grown up since then.
I am not agnostic... well a little bit. I have always been more of deist. Deism is what I best can use to explain my feelings toward a belief in a higher power, my agnostic self is centered that I am not sure of any of "it".
Religion: A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
I find that religion is not cut and dry. Muslims, Christians (many differ look at how it branches out), Pagans, Buddhists, etc.
What is one groups fact, is another's heresy. Each one yelling above the other "we got the message"
*******************************************
What I would like to see from religious people.
- Toleration of non-believers.
- Extremist behavior makes people not want to listen to you.
- Gays do not believe they are bad for being gay, holding signs that says they are will not make a difference. Why push for other people to have to live by your moral laws?
- I.E What if I had you live by my moral laws which include going to church is a sin? You would not like it much, I am sure. Making laws to govern actions that are not your own and hurt no one, is unconstitutional
- If something is not the way you want it, then tolerate it. This does not mean you like it, accept it nor have to be around it in your own home, property, etc. In public you will have to deal with two gay men kissing... just don't get turned on <---- that is a sin.
- Your religion is not a science and should not be taught in science class.
Non believers
- Respect religion as you would the elderly, they have served their time.
- Why does it matter if they do not believe the same as you.
- Little Timmy can bring in the bible for free reading. Sarah can bring in the Quran. Matthew can bring in the Satan Bible.
- Christians do not have to accept homosexuals, behaviors they consider sins, etc. All they have to do is tolerate. Do not try to convince them.
- Why is it more acceptable to try convince religious people that their religion is not "good" but it is not acceptable for them to come our doors and bring their religion.
- Come on atheists! Just because our dollar says "In god we trust" does not mean we bend over for god... it does not mean anything unless you put meaning in it, which seems atheists plan.
- Extremists makes people not want to listen to you.
In the end, directed at both groups
- get along.
- Stay out of each others business
- Practice what you preach (hypocrites look silly)
- What you find ill moral is not the same as everyone else... deal.
Take care.

Hehe I expected little to no comments about a religion post.
Religion is completely hypocritical. No matter how much you judge other people, you'll go to heaven if you attend mass every week. It doesn't make any sense.
When I used to work Sundays at Perkins, the same large group of people would come in every week. They would treat the servers like dirt, complain about everything, but then whip out their bibles and have readings like they were all-mighty. Just gave religion a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm a believer, but I'm not one of those believers. I believe everybody should believe what they want to believe, and nobody should try to change that.
I always had this theory about religions. Imagine a bad car accident involving a bunch of different races, and sexes, and mixed people. Each of those people would go home and tell a different version of the same story. That's how I feel religion is. It's the same story really, just different views.
right on
I am a Christian, and I agree with you. All people should be tolerable and not judge others.
However, it is human nature that gets in the way of that :)
Nicole - Religion is a fickle fetish. I speak bluntly about it when ever I do speak of it. I believe that some of worst issues are due to the oppression (perceived or real) by the liberal/ACLU creates more extremists within the religion culture
The religion culture creates more tension by showing dead babies on boards... the liberals further tensions by telling conservatives that they are evil for not accepting homosexuality... so and so forth. Never ends. Neither side practicing what they preach.
Tolerance.
Kitten- I try to display a balanced view. Several things are black and white in life... the rest is always complex. I am glad that you liked my post as I hoped all of you would.
Appletini- Human nature... is a scary thing. Religion has never helped define it for me. I look at religion as one of the most single beautiful elements of our world, but in the very same hand it has been the most destructive and has been a weapon in our absolution for guilt from our past deeds.
Catholic Church - not assisting and or "ratting out" the jews during war world II
Yet helped spread literacy, art, information, developed banking, property, taxes/tithe,etc.
Removal of the savage native Americans... they where heathens.
gave hope, lifestyle, food for the poor, charities, etc. to the poor and down trodden.
The holy crusades?
The assimilation and destruction of those who did not believe the same.
religion spurred movement into America... as kings would not allow people to practice their own faith.
Great evils, great acts of kindness, great struggles build great empires. Our society has flourished because of nature of religion for that it has my respect, but that is all it has, because it was all mans doing... god does not give thumbs up to war.
funny, God seems to have fueled most wars... ;)
I don't think these rules just apply to religious matters . . . but to pretty much everything. Politics too. :) Besides, I hate the label "religious" anyway, it sounds so pretentious, and that's not what I want to be at all!
